With natural sand, seashells, dried flowers and a translucent water effect, this creation turns a simple candle into a true decorative piece.

Elegant, immersive and on-trend, this handmade candle is a must for any summer collection. Its original design instantly catches the eye and brings a refined seaside touch to any interior. It's made with paraffin gel, just like the peach iced tea candle, perfect for the summer season.

A summer candle with real visual impact

As soon as the sunny days arrive, creations inspired by the sea and holidays are always a hit. This ocean candle combines natural textures, transparency and decorative details for a result that is as soothing as it is original.

For this recipe, the "Island beauty" fragrance brings a warm, exotic dimension that suits the candle's seaside theme perfectly. You can, however, personalise your creation with other summer fragrances to match the mood you're after.

Everything you need for this creation

Raw materials

  • Paraffin gel, approximately 250 g
  • Olive wax for container candles, approximately 150 g
  • 7% to 10% candle fragrance oil, here "Island beauty"
  • Blue dye chips
  • Decorative sand
  • Seashells
  • Clear pebbles
  • Dried flowers - Bouquet féerique

Accessories

  • 200 mL clear container
  • 730 mL clear container
  • Wick suited to the container
  • Self-adhesive wick pad
  • Wick centring tool
  • Bain-marie or melting pot
  • Thermometer

How to make your ocean candle, step by step

1. Prepare the central container

Fix the wick to the bottom of the 200 mL clear container with a self-adhesive wick pad. Then keep the wick perfectly straight with a centring tool to make pouring the wax easier.

Next, place this container in the centre of the large 730 mL clear container. This layered set-up creates the decorative effect all around the main candle.

2. Create the seaside scene

Gently add the sand all around the small container to form a natural base. Then arrange the seashells, clear pebbles and a few dried flowers harmoniously to recreate a scene inspired by coastal landscapes.

Vary the textures and heights for a more realistic, refined look.

Step 2: placing the sand and seashells in our ocean candle

3. Make the inner candle

Melt the olive wax for container candles in a bain-marie, following the recommended temperatures (80°C for most plant-based waxes). Once the wax has fully melted, add between 7% and 10% fragrance when the wax is at 75°C, then stir gently to preserve the olfactory qualities of the fragrance.

Then pour the scented wax into the 200 mL container and let it cool slightly before carrying on. If you pour the paraffin gel around the central container straight away, the still-warm wax may move, which could shift the wick or spoil the surface of the inner candle.

Step 3: filling the central candle

4. Prepare the translucent water effect

Melt the paraffin gel in a bain-marie without exceeding the maximum recommended temperature (95°C). Then add between 7% and 10% fragrance to boost the scent of your creation and stir gently for a few moments.

Pour the clear gel into the large container all around the seaside scene, without filling it completely. This first layer creates the crystal-clear water effect around the decorative elements.

Step 4: pouring the paraffin gel

5. Finish with the ocean effect

Check that the remaining gel is still hot, at least 84°C, before gradually adding the blue dye chips for a shade that evokes the deep tones of the ocean.

Then gently pour this mixture over the top of the creation to create a natural watery gradient and give the candle more visual depth.

Step 5: pouring the blue paraffin gel for a colour gradient

Decorating tip

To enhance the seaside effect, go for light-toned dried flowers and natural seashells in different sizes. Combining translucent gel with decorative elements gives a particularly elegant finish once the candle is complete.

Storage tips

Paraffin gel is sensitive to high temperatures. Avoid leaving it in the sun or in a hot, enclosed space for long periods to preserve the gel's transparency and the structure of your creation.

A lid or protective cloche will also help keep dust off and preserve the full transparency of the paraffin gel.
