An original candle for the festive season!

It can be lovingly personalised with a wide choice of containers, colours and sparkling glitter.

A DIY Christmas gift idea

As the festive season approaches, finding original, handmade Christmas gift ideas often turns into a real headache. Whether you sell this piece in your shop or give it to your loved ones, you are choosing a handcrafted gift that is both refined and meaningful.

A star creation for the Christmas season

Many artisans, retailers and independent makers now include the snow globe candle in their seasonal collections. At Christmas markets, in makers' boutiques and in concept stores, it catches the eye with its original look and strong decorative appeal.

Recipe for a successful snow globe candle

What you need:

  • Clear glass candle container
  • Glitter
  • LX wick
  • Paraffin gel
  • Container wax of your choice
  • Precision scales and a cooking thermometer
  • Small pot for heating the wax and gel

Making your snow globe candle:

1. Sprinkle the biodegradable glitter into the bottom of the clear container.

2. Add a little lukewarm water to the container to create visual space around the glitter.

3. Heat the paraffin gel to between 84°C and 95°C (to prevent bubbles from forming). Take care not to exceed 110°C. You can customise your gel with dye or fragrance as you wish, following the recommended dosages for candles. Slowly pour in a layer of gel thick enough to act as a seal.

4. Place the LX wick in the centre, choosing a size suited to your container. This wick is recommended when combining gel and wax.

5. Wait a few hours for the gel to set fully. Two hours is usually enough.

6. Melt your container wax (of your choice) to around 65°C; it will form the top part of your candle. The wax must not be too hot, or it may melt the gel. You can customise your wax with dye or fragrance as you wish.

The result is a candle with three visually contrasting layers.

Tips for keeping your candle in good condition

To make sure your candle is long-lasting and safe:

  • Make sure the layers are watertight. When you pour the wax, check that the gel has fully set and has no cracks. Cracked gel can let water through or cause tiny leaks around the wick.

  • Protect it from dust and evaporation. Use a small candle lid or a breathable protective film to stop dust from settling on the surface. This also reduces fragrance evaporation.

Mandatory labelling for sale

If you want to sell your handmade candles, the regulations are strict and designed to keep consumers safe. Every candle placed on the market must carry certain mandatory information.

You will find an introduction to the CLP Regulation in our dedicated guide.

Reminder: failure to comply with the regulations can lead to prison sentences and fines.
