Recipe for an original Halloween candle
Autumn is here, and with it the mysterious mood of Halloween. It is the season for decorating our homes with creations as original as they are spooky! Important: this creation is strictly decorative if you choose to add flammable elements to it (such as a small plastic skeleton). In this case, the candle must not be lit. For a safe, functional candle, follow the recipe without adding plastic decorations or any other flammable materials.
What you need:
- A container of your choice
- A wax of your choice (here, we went for olive wax)
- 7 to 10% fragrance oil (here, “Still life”)
- Biodegradable glitter
- A wick suited to the size of your container
- A beaker
- A wick centring tool, homemade or ready-made
- A plastic skeleton (if you add this decoration, you will not be able to light the candle: it will be strictly decorative).
Making your Halloween candle
Enough theory, time to get hands-on!
1. Prepare your container: centre the wick. If you are adding a skeleton, carefully position it at the bottom, around the wick.
2. Melt the wax: bring it to working temperature, pour it into a beaker, then add 7 to 10% fragrance. Stir for 5 to 10 minutes so that the fragrance fully disperses through the wax.

3. Secure the wick: fit a centring tool. For unusual containers, make your own centring tool (see below).
4. Pour the wax: pour slowly along the wick to avoid bubbles and get a smooth surface.

5. Add the finishing touch: sprinkle over some biodegradable glitter for a magical, shimmering effect.

Recommendations for use and storage
Use
As mentioned above, this candle is decorative and must not be lit, because of the plastic skeleton. If you would like to make a safe, functional version, simply follow the same DIY steps, leaving out the skeleton and any other decorative element made of plastic or flammable material. This does not apply to the glitter: it is biodegradable, so you can leave it in when the candle is lit.
Storage
To stop dust from settling on the surface and the scent from fading too quickly, cover your candle with a suitable lid or a protective cover that still lets air circulate. This simple precaution helps your creation keep its full fragrance intensity.
