More and more people are looking for original, long-lasting creations full of emotion, to give as gifts or to decorate their homes. Having explored the sand wax melt, a delicately fragranced creation that looks like coloured sand, let’s find out how to make a bouquet of wax flowers.

The scented floral bouquet is fast becoming a poetic alternative to traditional flowers. It combines the beauty of a floral arrangement with the sensory dimension of a scented candle, for a result that is decorative, creative and deliciously fragrant even unlit, with a scent that lasts. Part home décor, part handmade gift, this type of creation wins people over with its originality and the freedom it offers in choosing shapes, colours and fragrances.

For a first creation, our “Bouquet of flowers” kit brings together everything you need to make a bouquet of 10 scented wax flowers, with step-by-step instructions and a video tutorial.

The wax melt bouquet concept: a decorative, sensory arrangement

This type of creation lets you design a long-lasting decoration that needs no upkeep, while showcasing the craft of moulded wax. Each element can be customised to the shapes, colours and fragrances you choose, giving you great creative freedom and a polished visual result.

A wax flower bouquet is therefore an alternative to fresh flowers. Its appeal lies in its longevity and its cold throw, which lets the fragrance come through gently, over a long period.

Recipe: create a bouquet of scented wax flowers

To make this creation, you will need the following supplies

  • Olive wax for moulded candles and wax melts
  • Flower moulds of your choice, here the “Peony” mould and the “Succulent plant” mould
  • A box, here a heart-shaped cardboard box
  • Floral foam
  • Picks
  • Dye chips, here in light pink
  • Wick centring tool
  • Two beakers
  • Candle fragrance oil of your choice, here “Rose”
  • Dried flowers, here the “Fantasy bouquet” mix
  • Biodegradable glitter for scented creations

How to make your wax melt floral arrangement

  1. Start by preparing the base of your arrangement. Cut the floral foam to the size of the box, then fill the box completely to create a stable support for your future candles on picks.

  2. Melt the olive wax intended for wax melts until it reaches 80°C. When the temperature drops back to 75°C, add the fragrance, then stir thoroughly for about 2 minutes to make sure the blend is perfectly even. As a guide, this creation was made with about 300 g of wax.

  3. To get two flower colours, pour half of the melted wax into another beaker. In this second beaker, add the pink dye to the melted wax and stir for 2 minutes so that the dye blends in completely.

  4. Prepare your flower moulds by placing the picks in the centre, held in place with a wick centring tool so that they stay perfectly straight while you pour. Then pour the wax into the moulds however you like. You can create all-pink flowers, all-white flowers or play with an ombré effect. To do this, pour a small amount of one colour, gently swirl the mould so that the wax coats the sides, then top up with the other colour.

  5. Let the wax melts set completely before unmoulding.
  6. Once the flowers are out of their moulds, adjust the length of the picks if necessary to suit the height of your arrangement.
  7. Push the flower candles into the floral foam and build your bouquet by playing with volumes and heights.
  8. Then add the dried flowers to bring in colour and texture and to fill any gaps.
  9. For the finishing touch, gently sprinkle a little biodegradable glitter over the whole arrangement.
  10. Your creation is now ready to display or give as a gift, perfect as an original scented decoration that won’t go unnoticed.

Storage tips

We recommend keeping the arrangement away from heat and direct light. Prolonged exposure to sunlight or to a heat source can cause the wax to warp, the pigments to fade and the fragrance to evaporate more quickly. Ideally, choose a temperate, dry spot out of direct sun.

As for the scent, it is worth pointing out that wax melts naturally give off their fragrance unlit for some time, but that this gradually fades. This is normal and depends on the type of fragrance, its concentration and the storage conditions.

When the creation no longer gives off enough fragrance, you have several options:

  • The arrangement can be partly refreshed. Simply replace some of the wax flowers with newly scented ones, without having to remake the whole bouquet.
  • The wax flowers can also be used as wax melts. Simply remove them and place them in a wax warmer to enjoy their fragrance right to the very end.
  • The candles can be taken out of the bouquet and lit like ordinary candles, provided they have been properly wicked and are safe to burn.

Key takeaways

To show your creation at its best, take care over the presentation: pair the bouquet with a scented card, play with heights and materials (dried flowers, ribbons, touches of sparkle), and dream up collections by shade or by scent theme. Remember to make clear that it is for decorative use, and adapt the concept to the seasons: spring pastels, spicy winter notes, summery citrus.
